Create
Thursday, February 4, 2010 I'm going to recycle an old blog post because it has been on mind a lot lately. All of this thinking about things that make me happy has really brought this one to the forefront. One of the things that makes me truly happy in life is the ability to create.
I once had this guy from Africa ask me three words that described me best. The first one that I thought of was creative. Not because I think that I have a distinct ability to think of unique ideas, but because I feel that if I am ever not able to create...something...anything...that will be it...it will just be the sad end because that is what makes me tick. That is what I am. In reference to creation many think of art or visual craft but it is more than that. What about creating life (the greatest creation of all). Raising little people to be great people. What about creating peace or creating comfort for others. Create order. Create art. Create music. Create happiness. Create unity in your relationships. Everyone has something that they can create out of their reality that is of benefit to the world. One of my favorite quotes is:
"To laugh often and love much; to win the respect of intelligent persons and the affection of children; to earn the approbation of honest citizens and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to give of one's self; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to have played and laughed with enthusiasm and sung with exultation; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived - this is to have succeeded."
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
There is something unique that you can put into the world. Maybe today is a good day to try it. Here is a random illustration I created on a day when I was feeling particularly creative. Enjoy!
